About Teja Dashmi, Festival Guide

Who Is Veer Tejaji?
Veer Tejaji (also written Tejaji or Teja Ji) is a revered folk hero and deity of Rajasthan, born in the Dhauliya Jat community in the village of Khanarsal, Nagaur district, around the 10th–11th century CE. He is worshipped across Rajasthan as a protector against snake bites, a guardian of farmers and cattle, and a symbol of sacrifice and honour. The legend of Tejaji centres on his selfless fulfilment of a promise even at the cost of his own life, after which he was bitten by a serpent and attained martyrdom on the Dashami tithi of Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha.

How Teja Dashmi Is Celebrated
Devotees observe a fast (vrat) on Teja Dashmi and visit Tejaji temples, where priests perform special puja rituals. Fairs (melas) are held across Rajasthan, with the Parbatsar Tejaji Fair in Nagaur district being the most prominent, it is simultaneously a massive livestock market where cattle, camels, and horses are traded. Pilgrims travel to Tejaji's birth village and other important shrines at Sursura (Ajmer), Bandai (Pali), and Tejaji Mahadev shrines across the Shekhawati and Marwar regions.

Teja Dashmi Kab Hai 2026? (When is Teja Dashmi in 2026?)
Teja Dashmi 2026 is expected to fall on Monday, 5 October 2026, based on the Dashami tithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month in the Hindu lunar calendar. The exact date should be confirmed from an authoritative Rajasthani Panchang, as tithi-based festival dates can shift by one day depending on local almanac conventions and the time of sunrise.

Is Teja Dashmi a bank holiday?
Teja Dashmi is a gazetted bank holiday in Rajasthan. All bank branches in Rajasthan, including public sector banks, private banks, cooperative banks, and Regional Rural Banks, remain closed on this day. The holiday is declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 by the Rajasthan state government. Banks in other states are not affected and operate normally on Teja Dashmi.

How many bank holidays does Rajasthan have in October 2026?
Rajasthan banks face at least six closure days in October 2026: Gandhi Jayanti (2 October, nationwide), Teja Dashmi (5 October, Rajasthan), 2nd Saturday (10 October, nationwide), Vijaya Dashami/Dussehra (20 October, Rajasthan and most states), 4th Saturday (24 October, nationwide), and Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti (26 October, Rajasthan). This makes October 2026 one of the heaviest bank holiday months for Rajasthan.

What is the significance of Teja Dashmi?
Teja Dashmi commemorates the martyrdom of Veer Tejaji, a Rajasthani folk hero revered as a snake deity and protector of farmers. Observed on Bhadrapada Krishna Dashami, the festival draws pilgrims to Tejaji temples across Rajasthan, particularly in Nagaur, Ajmer, Pali, and Sikar districts. The Parbatsar Tejaji Fair, held simultaneously, is one of India's largest cattle fairs and a major rural economic event.

EMI Due Around Teja Dashmi 2026? Here Is What You Need to Know

October 2026 has a dense cluster of bank holidays in Rajasthan. If your loan EMI falls due in early October:

  • Due on 2 Oct (Gandhi Jayanti, nationwide): NACH debit will attempt on the next working day, Monday, 5 Oct. However, 5 Oct is Teja Dashmi (Rajasthan bank holiday). If your bank account is held in Rajasthan, the debit will further shift to Tuesday, 6 October 2026.

  • Due on 5 Oct (Teja Dashmi, Rajasthan): Debit processes on Tuesday, 6 October 2026. Maintain balance in your account by that date.

  • Due on 6 Oct (Tuesday): Normal processing. Ensure balance is available.

A holiday-triggered delay in NACH processing is not reported to CIBIL as a missed payment, it is a system-level deferral. However, if your account balance is insufficient on the actual processing day (6 October), it will be treated as a bounced EMI and may negatively affect your CIBIL score.

Practical Tip: If your EMI falls between 2–5 October 2026 and your account is with a Rajasthan-based branch, ensure sufficient balance is maintained from 1 October 2026 onwards through 6 October 2026 to cover the full debit window.
